Triangle Member makes Scots Tour

Long time Triangle Curling Club member, and President of the GNCC (Grand National Curling Club), Dick Macartney will be amongst a select group of USCA Curlers chosen to participate in the 2012 Mens Scottish Tour, known as the Scots tour. Only 20 curlers from the US are selected to participate in this event which makes getting selected very difficult, considering the number of curlers to choose from, and add to the fact that we are an Arena club makes this all the more special. Team members are chosen based on their service to curling, as well as their ambassadorial and curling skills. Members pay their own way to the event. The Scots Tour is held every 5 years with the hosts alternating between Scotland (The Royal Caledonian Curling Club) and the US and has been going on since 1952. This year the event is being held in Scotland from January 26 to February 20, 2012. The event is 145 games at 20 different curling clubs with the winners being named by total points from all games. The winners get to keep the Herries-Maxwell Trophy. This trophy was made about 1803 and is a “Trafalgar Vase” once used to award British citizens for service to the Empire. The Scottish Team last won the trophy in 2007 on their tour of the US, so now is time for the US to return the favor and bring the trophy back. This is a great honor for Dick and for the Triangle Curling Club and we wish him best of luck on the “Tour”. Every person on the tour gets a plaque with the entire participants club pins attached. It will be great to see our club included with clubs from Wisconsin, North Dakota, Massachusetts, Washington, Ohio and New York
