The United States Olympic Trials for Curling begin this Sunday, and it's all very exciting. Better yet, YOU will be able to watch the action, online and on television! Let's discuss.
Mixed Doubles is one of the newest of the Curling sports and is gaining in popularity every year. All normal curling rules apply EXCEPT:
•There are only 2 players per team (normally 1 male and 1 female but we will mix and match)
•You only throw 5 rocks (Player one throws rocks 1 and 5 and Player two throws 2,3 and 4)
•You can change who is player 1 and 2 every end if you wish
•The team who has “hammer” actually decides whether they want hammer or not every end.
•2 rocks are placed in play every end (hammer team in rings) see picture 1 below.
•NO rock can be removed until after the third stone is played (including rocks in the house)
The team that wants “hammer” places their stone in the house. (Same curling rules apply, the team losing the previous end gets to decide hammer)
Our Fall Leagues begin tonight, so we're going to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the most unheralded of curling positions: the Lead. (All while not putting too much pressure on our new curlers who are playing Lead this season, of course.)
